La Casualidad: listening from the silence

Sound walk, research, listening.

The project stems from an audiovisual investigation conducted at the abandoned La Casualidad mine (Salta, Argentina), a mining settlement located at an altitude of over 4,000 metres, where extractive activity has left its mark on both the landscape and the memory of its inhabitants. Drawing on the testimony of Liz, a former resident of the settlement, the work explores the relationship between silence, ruins and sonic memory.
Through a sound walk and physical interaction with materials found on site, such as rusted iron, glass and sand, sound recordings are created that activate the acoustic landscape of the place. The result is an audiovisual composition shaped by the tension between silence, gesture and resonance, in which the ruins become an instrument for sound production.
